Chris Malcolm is clearly a passionate retailer. His franchise group has 79 stores across Australia and the group accounts for around $110 million in sales. Clark Rubber is a name as old as our parents and with a brand recall that would embarrass many giant public companies.
But it wasn’t always like this. Clark Rubber was itself once a public company and acquired by AdStream in the 1970s. Poor management and declining sales saw the final store close in the 1980s. Dead and buried.
Chris Malcolm didn’t think so. He approached the (then) owner of the brand and opened his first store in Nunawading with a broad range of foams, rubber and pool accessories. Over time, the range grew to exceed 20,000 product lines and Clark Rubber went on to win the Australian Franchise of the Year.
Today, the “Clarkee” mascot is heard and seen across Australia on radio, print and television. Now your kids know Clark Rubber as well as your parents!
Chris Malcolm and Clark Rubber are a great Australian success story and proudly one of Fordham’s business owner clients.
